Matt Avery

Matt Avery

U.S. Department of Defense - Division Chief, R&D

Mr. Avery is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point with a Bachelor of Science. He also holds a Master of Science degree in Cybersecurity from the University of Maryland University College.

He started his career as a professional soldier, commissioned into the Infantry in June, 1996. His assignments included: Rifle Platoon Leader, 1st Platoon, C Company, 1-508th Airborne Battalion Combat Team (ABCT); and Brigade Adjutant, 173rd Airborne Brigade, Vicenza, Italy. While in Italy, following active duty, he joined an investment firm gaining his Series licensing for securities (6, 7, & 24). After returning from Italy, LTC Avery was mobilized in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I at EUCOM J5, Patch Barracks. Upon return to the United States, he managed a small federal contract business and was assigned to the Pentagon, serving in the National Military Command Center (NMCC) for the Army G2 (Intel) as a Desk Officer. He then became the S3 (Operations Officer) of a joint unit from 2007 to 2011. After graduating from Command and General Staff College and Joint Forces Staff College, LTC Avery began his civil service in the Department of Defense. He also served for several years as an Acting Deputy Director for Intelligence (ADDI) at the Joint Staff, Pentagon, again in the NMCC. In 2014, he served on active duty as a Cyber-Operations Planner for the USCYBERCOM at Ft. Meade. Currently, he works for the DoD as a Division Chief, doing R&D. In September of 2019, LTC Avery relinquished command of the 325th Military Intelligence Battalion. He is currently trying to figure out what he’s going to do when he grows up.

He has held several leadership positions with safety, environmental, manufacturing, and logistics companies and has extensive experience supporting complex Project needs for Refining, Petrochem, and LNG Owners and EPCs. Randy’s priorities for business success include effective team dynamics and value alignment with Client goals and expectations.

Jeff’s career has been driven by continuous performance improvement efforts on Capital Projects. He joined Fluor in 1990 as a Maintenance Coordinator at an O&M jobsite in San Diego, California (his hometown). Soon realizing he was part of a much larger organization, he began a career trek which would take him through Supply Chain Project, Staff, and Leadership roles in Oil & Gas (upstream, downstream, and offshore), Government, Power, and Mining, while assigned to offices and jobsites in California, South Carolina, Oklahoma, the Netherlands, the UK, Australia, Canada, and of course, Texas. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from California State University, Sacramento, with Graduate Studies in International Business. Jeff enjoys his research work with CII as well as lecturing to universities’ graduate students about Material Management best practices.

Smartvid.io, Inc. - Founder & CEO

Josh Kanner is Founder and CEO of Smartvid.io. Smartvid.io reduces project risk in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industry by improving safety, productivity, and quality through easy-to-use artificial intelligence.

Most recently, he was Co-Founder of Vela Systems, a pioneer in the use of web and tablet workflows for construction and capital projects. There he led the company’s Product, Marketing, and Business Development functions. Vela Systems grew from bootstrapped beginnings to include over 50% of the ENR Top Contractors as customers and deployments all over the globe. The company was successfully acquired by Autodesk in 2012 and has been re-branded as BIM 360 Field.

Prior to founding Vela Systems, Josh was responsible for Product Management and Strategy at Emptoris (now part of IBM), a web-based, strategic sourcing software company with customers including Motorola, GlaxoSmithKline, Bank of America, and American Express.

Kanner graduated from Brown University and earned an MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management. He still gets excited to put on a hard hat and walk a job.

Dr. William O'Brien

CII - Construction Supply Chain Management & Electronic Collaboration Expert

Dr. William J. O’Brien is an expert on construction supply chain management and electronic collaboration. He conducts research, teaches, and consults on both systems design and implementation issues. Recently, his research on Advanced Work Packaging was featured in a cover story by Engineering News-Record, designated a Best Practice by CII, and adopted as a corporate execution standard by major Owner/Operators such as ExxonMobil.

Dr. William J. O’Brien was the Lead Editor on the widely referenced Construction Supply Chain Management Handbook, and his research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, National Institute of Standards and Technology, CII, Fiatech, The Transportation Research Board, and the Texas Department of Transportation. In 2018, Dr. O’Brien was awarded with the Richard L. Tucker Leadership and Service Award, among CII’s highest honors.

Dr. O’Brien has been a faculty member at the University of Florida, the interim Director of Fiatech, and Vice President for Marketing and Product Development at Collaborative Structures, a Boston-based internet start-up. He holds Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in civil engineering, an M.S. degree in engineering-economic systems from Stanford University, and a B.S. in civil engineering (academic honors) from Columbia University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.

Mike holds a degree in Chemical Engineering and is an accomplished chemical industry expert, having a total of 28 committed years in the field. Additionally, he provides insight and gives back through a variety of advisory boards and CII Research Team 363. Mike is also a Six Sigma Black Belt, leading Projects to success and APICS CPIM Certified.

Curtis Rodgers is an Industrial Technologist and Investor at Brick & Mortar Ventures, with six years of Construction process improvement experience at both Kiewit and McCarthy Construction – across defense, industrial, infrastructure, and commercial markets. Curtis founded The Society for Construction Solutions (SCS) in 2014, contributed to the NASA Centennial 3D Printed Habitat Challenge, and participated as a Lecturer for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Project Leadership Institute.

As Chief Administrative Officer and CIO, Jeremy holds responsibility for overseeing and implementing Epic Piping’s information technology, human resources, and environmental, health, and safety strategies and services. Mr. Turner has over 20 years of experience delivering information technology solutions to Fortune 1000 global companies.

Prior to joining Epic Piping in December 2014, Mr. Turner served as Senior VP & CIO of Amedisys, one of the nation’s leading home health and hospice providers. In his tenure at Amedisys, Mr. Turner was responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the company’s next-generation, custom EHR software, the transformation of IT’s cost structure, and the delivery of IT services to over 400 offices and 16,000 employees.

Additionally, Mr. Turner served in various senior management positions over an 18-year career at The Shaw Group, Inc., – a Fortune 500 company – most recently as Senior VP & CIO. During his tenure, he was responsible for leading key areas of the company’s global IT organization, IT initiatives and services across a diverse portfolio of business segments which grew in revenues of $500 million to $7.2 billion with over 25,000 employees.

His clients have included global companies across industries including oil and gas, chemicals, utilities, engineering and construction, aerospace, and high-tech.

Greg serves as Director of Materials Management at TechnipFMC. He is an accomplished and resourceful Materials and Supply Chain Manager with comprehensive experience in Material Management through Engineering, Procurement, and Construction on Capital Projects and Owner Operations. He has worked extensively in Project Operations in oil and gas, petrochemical, mining, food and beverage, and chemical industries.

Bobby is the Chief Operating Officer at Atlas RFID Solutions responsible for operational excellence and accountability across Sales, Marketing, and Operations departments. He has over 17 years of experience in project management and leadership responsibilities. Bobby holds a BS in Civil Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. Prior to Atlas, Bobby served as a Project Manager with The Shaw Group, responsible for delivering EPC projects in excess of $1.5 billion within the Power Industry. Bobby also served as an Armor Officer in the United States Army where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for Valor during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Jon is a software executive with more than two decades of sales, marketing, business development and project management experience providing disruptive solutions to the construction market. As the 5th employee at Atlas, Jon has held various areas of responsibility over the years including product marketing, sales, business development and developing strategic client and partner relationships to further the industry adoption of technology in construction. Specialties: Experience includes sales, business development, technical project management, product strategy and management, product marketing and sales, deploying mission-critical enterprise software systems, contract negotiation, IT and RFID technology sales, business relationship management and business process mapping and consulting.

Robert is a 1996 Graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and earned an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. He served as an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Army for 6 years before entering the healthcare marketing industry. After 5 years in healthcare marketing, Robert started a company in the burgeoning RFID industry. Atlas RFID Solutions, Inc. is a small firm that focuses on assisting customers with implementing the latest RFID technology supplied by the world’s top RFID developers. Atlas focuses on delivering greater profits for our clients through greater systems and processes based on greater technology (RFID).

Justin serves as the Vice President for Product Management at Atlas RFID Solutions and has contributed to the success of the Jovix platform since 2011 when he joined the team as a System Coordinator. With an impressive and extensive background in construction tech, Justin is responsible for 12 implementations, 19 boots-on-the-ground projects, and over 30 scoped projects. Justin is a proud Georgia Institute of Technology alum where he earned a degree in Building Construction. His favorite part about working at Atlas is the flexibility to create an outstanding product that serves the real-world needs of our clients.

John Walker

Solutions Engineering Manager

John Walker is a long-time Atlas RFID Solutions employee, having held various positions including roles in sales and operations; he now serves as a Jovix Solutions Engineering Manager. Walker has deployed multiple RFID implementations throughout the world in addition to scoping, creating, and consulting on numerous material management engagements. Walker is Six Sigma Certified (“Champion” Belt), OSHA 30 Certified, and involved in both CII (UMM Sector, Membership Committee) and FIATECH (PAT 7 Initiative). Prior to Atlas, Walker worked as Materials Manager/Warehouse Manager for BL Harbert, Safety and Security Manager for WG Yates, Construction Manager for BLOX, and Materials Manager/Field Procurement Manager at the Bantrel Surmont II Project in Fort McMurray, Alberta.
